Anna and I would like to wish all of you a Merry Christmas! This has been an interesting year for us to say the least. It was the first year that I did Red Cowboy fully from January to December. What started out as something that I stumbled into and planned on being temporary and transitional as slowly turned into my new “desk job”. It’s been an interesting change from being in the people and relational business to sitting by myself in a room with a computer being creative all day. Trust me . . . I’m not complaining! But it has been a change that has stretched our marriage as we have learn to adjust and appropriate our finances, household roles, and even our time together. It turns out that running your own business isn’t exactly a 9-5 job and is more an all-day, every-day thing. As we’ve learned to manage our schedules and sync them together, we’ve grown closer to each other in ways that probably weren’t possible under any other circumstances. We’ve learned to be honest with each other about our frustrations and given sacrifice a whole new meaning.
Throughout this year, as Anna has seen me come to life by doing what I’m gifted to do, she has been encouraged to go out and do what she has been gifted to do. And as of November, she quit her full time job and decided to launch her very own photography business. In that short amount of time, I’ve seen her come to life as she’s begun to do what she loves to do . . . be creative and be relational. She recently just launched her new site and has been running all over the place taking Christmas photos and designing Christmas cards.
Needless to say, 2007 has brought a lot of changes for us. One can only imagine what 2008 will have in store for us as we try to align ourselves more and more with what we are passionate about and that crazy, wild-eyed message of Jesus of Nazareth. As we live more and more in the way of Jesus we are being convinced of two things.
1) The world is not as bad and depraved as some people say it is and
2) We have a great responsibility to be a light with our actions and energy about the spaces where darkness has crept in.
It is to this second point that we are dedicating 2008 to . . . becoming aware of our responsibility to create possibilities for change that hangs heavy in the air. This is not just our individual goal . . . but it is the vision of what we do with our businesses. And to which we generously thank you for partnering with us as we explore these new possibilities.
Merry Christmas and may you and your family be blessed as meek, poor in spirit, peacemakers.
